Interface Accepted to present Bone Health Work at RCGP Conference

For a third successive year, Interface Clinical Services have been invited to present a poster at the RCGP conference, which will take place in Glasgow.

Showcasing our work with the AHSN NENC (Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria) to improve bone health and optimise care, Interface will present a poster detailing the project findings.

The project reviewed a patient population of almost 260,000, with Interface Clinical pharmacists working with practice clinicians to improve bone health and optimise treatment for patients at risk of calcium and vitamin D deficiencies.

Through the clinical review, 7.3% of patients (8044) were found with a greater than 20% probability of a major osteoporotic fracture within a 10-year period.  The programme also found almost 3,00 patients requiring treatment with 50% of those previously untreated. Applying NICE guidance, over 110,000 patients were also identified requiring a fracture risk assessment.

Bone Health Programme Manager for AHSN NENC, Sue Hart, commented: “…Working with Interface Clinical Services has enabled us to do this and greatly improve the bone health for many people within our region by preventing long term problems and associated costs. Due to its success, we now aim to deliver this programme on a national footprint through the whole AHSN network”
