QOF 2015/16

As we begin another QOF year, there are a few fundamental changes to be aware of for 2015/16.

The QOF point value for England has increased to £160.15 with the average practice population increasing to 7,233. Essentially, this has created a 2% uplift in the QOF point value from £156.92 to £160.15. The Contractor Population Index (CPI) has also been adjusted due to the 2.57% increase in the average practice list size, whilst the number of clinical domain points available will remain at 435.

This loss of £434.00 is due to the average population increasing to 7,233 giving a CPI of (7052/7233=0.975).

The revised QOF indicators for 2015/16 have seen key changes occurring in the clinical domains of Atrial Fibrillation (AF), Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Dementia.

Atrial Fibrillation:

  • 29 QOF points available in 2015/16 (vs 17 in 2014/15).
  • 12 extra QOF points, which is £1,922 in additional income for an average practice.
  • No CHADS2 requirement.
  • CHA2DS2VASc will become a mandatory risk assessment tool.
  • Patients with a CHA2DS2VASc score of >1 will require anticoagulation therapy.
  • Antiplatelet therapy will no longer be rewarded.

Chronic Heart Disease:

  • 35 QOF points available in 2015/16 (vs 45 in 2014/15) with an average loss of £1,602.
  • 10 points lost due to the retired quadruple therapy following Myocardial infarction (MI) indicator.
  • The CHD register value for an average practice will be £5,605 (vs £7,061 in 2014/15).

Chronic Kidney Disease:

  • 6 QOF points available in 2015/16 (vs 32 in 2014/15) with an average loss of £4,164.
  • All 6 points available are for the CKD register – no other clinical work will be required.
  • The CKD register value for the average practice will be £961 (vs £5021 in 2014/15).

Dementia:

  • 50 QOF points available in 2015/16 (vs 26 in 2014/15) worth an average of £8,008.
  • 24 extra QOF points, which is £3,844 in additional income for an average practice.
  • The extra 24 points can be achieved by performing face to face reviews, as specified within the DEM002 indicator.
  • Revision of time frame to DEM003 indicator.
